Eggplant
ggplants are native to India and were grown in Europe well before the Middle Ages. Thought to be poisonous, eggplants were grown as unique table decorations alone for hundreds of years. Thomas Jefferson brought eggplants to the US and grew them at Monticello as an oddity. Eggplants gained popularity for use as food in the US in the 1900s.
